review 1: Liv has been different ever since she was thirteen. Every month she is filled with rage, and she has hair all over her body. But Liv tries to hide it by pretending to date Pace, who is gay, while she secretly has a boyfriend named Corey, who she doesn't think her mother will accept because of his race. Her mother hunts wolves, and this makes Liv very, very angry.I generally think Francesca Lia Block is brilliant, but this felt carelessly done. I had a hard time following the action and never really figured out what big event happened when Liv was thirteen, aside from her mother killing a wolf and her first change. The characters were all seeming to hide who they were, which led to me not liking most of them. Even when Liv is approaching by seven werewolf brothers, sh... moree refuses to acknowledge her werewolf side. If you're a big fan of werewolf stories, this isn't completely terrible, but I didn't feel like it was up to par with the author's usual ethereal stories.
review 2: I was so excited to read this book, and was so immensely disappointed after I finished it. Liv is a girl who learns she is a werewolf. Sounds great right? But there is no real conflict in the book, and no real climax to get you excited. Liv is a flat character, and the only personality you see from her is when she feels the rage. And to make it worse, the only character with redeemable qualities is Pace, who then kills himself, and that was never fully explained either. The shocker was when her mother shot Liv's hand off, and you think that the story would reach some epic finale, but no, Liv just runs away forever with her boyfriend and no clear answer about what she will do about her furry problem. The end. I was hugely disappointed reading this, and I actually wish I hadn't because it just left me bored and depressed. less
