review 1: I was a little disappointed in this. Recommended by Neil Gaiman I expected grand things. I loved the setting and Wilson's thoughtful treatment of some knotty issues. But the fantasy element didn't grab me, and at times the writing style actually made me cringe inside a little bit. Along with with a plot that lacked pace, this one was a challenge to get through. I actually did a little jig of celebration giving it back to the library today. I hear her comics are better.
review 2: An intriguing urban fantasy that takes place in the Middle East and mixes the political themes of the Arab Spring and concerns over censorship and privacy, with poetic magical realism. It's a strange book really because although it weaves all of these concepts together, some part
... mores fit better than others, so it can be easy to get lost in what's happening throughout certain stages of the book. Some of the explanations of computer hacking are also described quite heavily with jargon which may be off putting in the beginning, but it soon picks up further down the line and makes for an original and wholly different novel to what I usually pick up. less
