review 1: I liked this book a great deal. It is a slow read, but a fairly rewarding one. It really is like one of the blurbs say it is--Austen/Bronte + magic. But also there is intrigue, politics, mysterious origins, and a secret order of magicians. Don't read this looking for fast action and a quick bit of entertainment--but if you do take the time to read it, The Magicians and Mrs. Quent will be a fascinating journey through the land of Altania and its rising perils.
review 2: The cover of this book was so beautiful that I had to pick it up, if only to have it on my shelves. ... moreay Ivy worked through riddles that her father left. There are also some amazing side characters, I fell madly in love with Rafferdy - seriously, I picture him as gorgeous and just flawed enough to be perfect. I also loved the sisters - probably based on my love of Pride and Prejudice, but hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! The girls are such likeable characters, and the side characters are so easy to love or hate. Then there's Mr. Quent. I won't say too much about him, as I don't want to ruin it if you're thinking of reading this (which you should), but I will say that I was really happy with him. less

Enjoyable and deep. My favorite character is the one who looks at the angel.
