review 1: Originally I was interested in this book to read about the Vietnam War and the bond of a Marine and dog, though Gareth Crocker took this book to a whole new level. Eloquently written so that I felt I was right along side of the characters in Vietnam getting shot at, sweating and fighting to help keep Jack (the dog) alive. With Finding Jack I loved watching how Fletcher changed and not only saved others but also saved himself, especially thanks to Jack. If you want to read a very moving book about a man who has lost everything, a heroic animal and the determination of the two to live and save each other this is the book for you. This story has made such a heart-felt impact on me that it will most definitely continue to live with me each and everyday. Thank you to all of tho... morese who have, are and will serve to protect our country!
review 2: The book was excellent. I was attracted to the story because it involved a dog and I was even more interested once I discovered the dog was a Labrador Retriever. But, I was hooked when the main character, Fletcher Carson, disobeys orders to kill the dog while out in the battlefields of Vietnam and then nurses the dog back to health with help from most of his camp. The two bond and the dog proves his worth by saving lives and providing cheer to the soldiers as they deal with death and the stresses of warfare. Again, I am not normally a fan of books of soldiers in battle but the man-to-dog bond sustained my interest. I really think this book could be made into a movie. It was a page turner. Loved it! less
