review 1: Another second book that is not as good as the first book in the series, but does have some great qualities. The story is complex, maybe a little bit too complex, and was not able track what was actually happening at times. But what i did like was the intent for historical accuracy; this followed the extensive 'author's note' at the end of the book, this I got to love. most the characters are real people that have played important roles in the history of the time. The author was also wanting to describe the mind sets of the Greek and Persian people, creating an interesting dialectic between the two. Such an approach I do love, and means that I will continue reading the rest of the series.
review 2: The Ionia Sanction is the second book from Gary Corby and it di... moredn't disappoint. Everything that I loved about The Pericles Commission was in this novel too; the dry humour, the attention not only to detail but to historical facts is superb. The character growth of the protagonists Nicolaos and Diotima is believable and makes them even more intriguing. Can't wait to read the next book in the series, Sacred Games. less
