The Athenian Mysteries
review 1: Delightful mystery set in the 460 B.C. Olympiad. Nicolaos and his fiancée [or is she his wife?] set out to solve the violent death of a Spartan pankratist. Timo, an Athenian pankratist and Nico's good friend, is accused of the murder. To try to keep down the rivalry between Athens and Sparta, Nico the Athenian and Markos the Spartan are tasked to solve the murder together. Fluffy, light reading of only a couple of hours. I like the way Corby works in ancient Greek customs [in this case mostly athetic] and trivia.
review 2: This was a great read. 460 AD. A politically sensitive murder occurs at the Olympic Games in ancient Greece. Nico, a young Athenian with a talent for solving mysteries is called upon to find the killer before the games erupt into warfar
... moree. This was easy to read and very "human". I think I learned more that will stick with me from this well-told story than from many textbooks. As a fun point of interest, Nico is the older brother of Socrates, who is a child and a character in the book. Hippocrates makes an appearance as a baby. The wife of King Leonides of the Spartan 300 is also a character. less

Interesting, but I think I enjoyed the history in the Author's Note more than the novel.
