review 1: The book was scoring a solid 4 stars until part 3. I was enjoying the story he was weaving about this damaged individual, but it went downhill fast. As soon as the book shifted to Stewart's perspective, he came off as naive and needy and kind of annoying. Also, as someone who didn't know much about the Zodiac Killer, I was unaware that the case has not been solved and felt he had definitely misrepresented it in the first sections. He was way too definitive in his presentation when really this is just a theory of his. It seems like a solid enough theory on the surface, and I would like to see the DNA analyzed, but he seems to really reach in a lot of spots. I don't buy his motive that Van was obsessed with Judy and the women were surrogates for her. Van seemed unstab... morele; why wouldn't he just pursue Judy? He makes one phone call years later...that's not exactly an overwhelming sign of obsession. Finding the name in the cyphers seemed overwhelming until you actually look at the cyphers and then it just seems like a stretch.It was still an interesting read and the first 2 parts were captivating, but just take it with a grain of salt.
review 2: Interesting story. Author was abandoned as an infant. Adopted by a wonderful couple. Birth mother contacts him in his 30s. In the search for his father, he finds out some dark aspects of his father's life. Stumbles on to the Zodiac Killer case. He makes the strong arguement that his father was the Zodiac due to his father's travels and associations. Up to you to decide if his conclusions are correct. With the help of a professional writer, Susan Mustafa, book is a good reach. less
