review 1: The concept is good- it is thought provoking and lends itself to storytelling. However Malley's writing style and character portrayal lets it down. The writing lacks depth, Malley attempts to convey settings and the seriousness of situations but doesn't create a compelling enough suspended reality. The characters are also difficult to identify with as not enough time is spent with them or developing them. Their actions' and their depictions' are frustrating making it hard to form any connection with them. I feel the book- characters, plot, and concept- has potential which hasn't fully been harnessed or used.

It had an interesting twist near the end I hadn't seen coming but beyond that it felt like another trilogy that could have been wrapped up in either one long book or 2 medium books, I don't understand, beyond making money, why so many of these stories are stretched into trilogies... Jaded with this type of book now so going to take a rest from them and read a wider variety of things! less

A great trilogy that is definitely worth reading. It warns of the danger of tamping with nature.
