The Killables
review 1: Gemma Malley never ceases to amaze me. She looks at power and leadership from different perspectives that really make me question how and why our society works in the way in which it does. The end of The Killables showed me how easily we fall into the trap of assumption. We assume that something is the way that it is (in reality as well as in fiction) because we are told that it is so. We assume that we know about life because of the little tufts of information we are told and taught. I was blown away by the clever twists in the first book, but The Disappearances was something else altogether! It turned everything that I thought I knew on its head, once again. Malley weaves characters through and intricate plot, a masterfully worked labyrinth which all fits together perfec... moretly at the end... Perfectly and yet, as always, not containing the "happily ever after" we so wish for. I loved every page and can't wait to see what happens next!
review 2: I liked this book better than the first book- it had better plots and twists than the first one and the pacing of the story was quite good too. Kowever all the main three characters in this book kept disappointing me- Evie for being so meek and confused, she doesn't even do anything important in this book, not for once. Lucas, the only character I liked in book 1 disappointed me when he ran from the city without dealing the disappearances like a true leader. I also didn't like how they got together in the book. Cheating is never okay with me and when it involves two brothers that is just disgusting. Raffy was the worst. I didn't think any character could annoy me more than Stefan Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries which has a similar love triangle between two brothers loving the same girl except Raffy is worse in how jealous, possessive to the point of being abusive he comes across as in this book which made me hate him. Thomas and Benjamin and Linus were the only characters who offered something interesting, especially the villain Thomas, he is some crazy megalomaniac indeed. I enjoy a good love story even love triangles if they are well written but sometimes they can ruin a good story which is what it did to this book felt. less
