review 1: I wanted/needed a little story refresher course. First of all, because I wanted to try my hand at writing them, but also because I've been reading so many longer works that I simply forgot the joy of experiencing a story that has such a finite timeline. I didn't connect with all of the stories in here; that's to be expected. But there are a few that I'm still thinking about. A professor moves into a house for the summer to mourn. A group of high school kids playing D&D. A messed up couple in Rome. Reading these stories gave me a little spark to try to pen my own, and also reminded me that writing comes in all shapes, sizes, and styles. It was nice to remember that.
review 2: I had to buy this book for my Beginners into Creative Writing Class for Fiction and Poe
... moretry. Never have I finished reading a 'textbook' and not be able to put it down. To say I loved this book would be a serious understatement. Now I know some of the storyies maybe questionable but overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I feel it has really changed my perspective on not only writing but story telling in general. This made me want to make a story that soemone will read and have a strong emotional reaction/connection to. This has motivated me to become and be a better writer. I am so glad that I was introduced to so many great talents. I will definitely be looking at some of the authors other works. I am excited to read more short stories as well. At first I wasn't sure about the whole short story genre but I feel it is a greatly underestimated genre. It really takes a skilled writer to pack so much in an intelligent and skillful way into a story -- only a few pages long. This Anthology has made me want to purchase other short story collections. I will be on the hunt for my next great short story collection. I highly recommend this series. Not just for school but for personal enjoyment as well. less

Usually I like short story collections, but most of these stories did not intrigue me.

One of the better collections I've come across- several memorable stories.
