review 1: Again, like my creative, I could not find the actual book to review, so I am writing it here, with other creative items.First Impression: The cover was minimalist yet the image was clever and almost satire. The colour scheme was fun and due to the minimization, the cover is eye catching.Tone: Informal and direct. The author speaks to the reader, engages them and clears the information into understanding it better.Content: The topics were not general, everyday events but carefully selected which made it a little disappointing for you could not apply the book for regular, daily events. However, I did learn a great deal: What is the difference between relative and absolute risks?Layout: The text was broken down by using graphs and images, which was a great idea for the someti... moremes dry text was exciting again.Overall: I read this book with ‘Think like a freak’ and liked how both of them almost complimented each other. They both delved into deep questions about life using statistics and facts to help the reader understand. I really did enjoy this book and would recommend it to those who want an new outlook on life.
review 2: The author is persuasive and clearly an expert in the field. While the book provides some salient points, it feels a bit thin and could be stronger as a series of targeted articles rather than a semi-cohesive book. Here are my gems:1. Don't confuse risk (eg roulette, craps) with uncertainty (eg poker, stocks, earthquakes).2. When dealing with uncertainty, use simple heuristics (ie rules of thumb) rather than complex analysis.3. In health statistics, the rate of false positives are often poorly understood as is the (potential) misuse of survivorship. less
