review 1: I have really enjoyed the Horus Heresy so far, but this one blew the lid off. By far my favourite novel in the series. It was great seeing the return of some characters from earlier in the series, as well as some great new ones to go along with. I really enjoyed that this book had a lot to do with a primarchs point of few. A lot of the series seems to focus on marines point of view towards the primarch, so it was really refreshing getting inside the mind of one. The early books in the series made me dislike Perturabo pretty heavily, but Angel Exterminatus made him a really interesting and slightly misjudged character. I really hope there are more stories centred around the characters in the novel, as one of the things that's bothered me most about the series is the lack of... more finality around so many interesting book characters.
review 2: More Horus Heresy! I quite enjoyed this one due to the fact that it focused on Perturabo and the Iron Warriors of IV Legion. This is a legion that I haven't read too much stuff about, so a lot of it was new to me.The Iron Warriors team up with Emperor's Children in this book and it's great to see the differences between the two legions. Both are traitors, but they couldn't be more different. When I think of traitor legions I tend to think of Legions like the Word Bearers, Emperor's Children, or Sons of Horus, i.e. the Chaos Legions. The Iron Warriors on the other hand follow Horus because they believe in what he's doing and have an actual grievance against the Emperor and their fellow Legions. less
