review 1: How have I not read this book before now? It was published in 2009 and here it is 2014. Doesn't matter. I am just glad I read it. It is a very realistic novel about a slacker guy coming home to Buffalo to deal with his sick mom and silent, distant dad. Great writing. There are Buffalo details in many places, and there is a truly authentic Buffalo feeling throughout. I absolutely loved reading it and I will be suggesting it for my book club's next selection.

... moreser at the end of the book as in the begining.[return]Based on other reviews I am clearly in the minority but this book just didn't work for me. less

Wonderful story and great writing! If you read and liked "The Midwife" you'll like this book too.

A well-written novel about dementia, which is a rare thing.
