review 1: For some unusual and illogical reason Greg Cox is one of my favorite Star Trek fiction writers. Maybe it is due to the flow of words and interesting narration. Maybe it is because he has got the small details that some writers often miss properly mastered. It is even possible that he retains the chemistry of these interesting characters as seen in the tv shows and movies.I encountered this book in the Barnes and Noble bookshop in Bozeman, Montana. Few days after the First Contact day. I saw the cover and I saw James T Kirk and Seven of Nine. And for the very first time in my life I judged a book by its cover. I only saw the author's name several hours after the purchase. If you are a Star Trek fan this book is for you. I usually have problems with crossovers as author's ten... mored to down play the characters. This book uses all the main characters very well. Even Scotty who is usually given the backseat has several important chapters.I really enjoyed this book. It was a real page turner.
review 2: I gave up attempting to keep up with all Star Trek books many years ago. The quality seemed to keep decreasing, with the rare exception. Every now and then I'll pick up one that catches my attention, hoping for a gem. Unfortunately, this wasn't it. It honestly seems like Greg Cox took a list of every overworked Star Trek cliche and strung them together into a book. Every time a redshirt is introduced, you know they're about to die. Nobody else, just the security guard. The banter and exposition are nothing that haven't been hashed and re-hashed over and over. No new ground is broken, and nothing new discovered. less

star Trek novels- a guilty pleasure. This one was excellent; a few notches above the rest.
