review 1: Although I was really looking forward to reading this book, I was sadly disappointed and frustrated in trying to read it. The story was just not terribly interesting, contained heavy character issues and the structure of the book was very strange. It begins with the voice of the cat, Prudence, which was very funny and entertaining. However, instead of staying with that voice throughout the book, the chapters also alternate between Laura, Josh and Laura's mother, Sarah. I found it very odd that Laura's mother had flashback chapters when she was dead. Some of the issues covered in the book included dealing with the loss of a parent, a home, a job and a pet. None of these topics are very upbeat and I felt like I was plodding my way through mud in reading this ... morebook.
review 2: I stumbled across this book browsing the shelves at Barnes & Noble. Forgive the seemingly sappy title; there is a reason for it which comes out in the story. I especially enjoyed the chapters from Prudence's perspective. I've found myself talking out loud to my cat even more than before and wondering what she's *really* thinking. I hope that I am her "Most Important Person" and now refer to our vet's office as the "Bad Place". I imagine she's narrating our lives just like Prudence did! If only I could see the thought bubble over her head.Engaging story line and quick read with only one chapter that really broke my heart. So, for those of you sensitive to animal stories like I am, I would say this book is a safe read. less
