review 1: What would you do if you found someone else's birth certificate in your baby book hidden away in a secret place in the book? This happens to Riley Spencer, a 17 year old girl who has anxiety issues that lead to panic attacks. Shelby, her best friend, suggests that her parents may have kidnapped her when she was three. There is nothing from her past before then. She has been on medicine for as long as she remembers. Are her parents drugging her for another reason? Are her mother and father really her parents? Her parents have always been overprotective. As Riley starts searching for answers and notices a man watching her every move, anxiety heightens, and Riley no longer knows who she is anymore, except for the boy who helps keep her grounded and from succumbing to her a... morenxiety attacks. Great suspense.
review 2: An entertaining read. I enjoyed the book, but there were a few things that kept it from being a higher rating. Riley is not a character to be admired. She is very passive allowing events to happen to her rather than having agency herself. She never presses her parents for answers even when she knows they are lying, and she is always wandering off on her own and getting in trouble. The parents seemed two dimensional - overprotective but not much else to them. The dialogue seemed forced for most of the book. It felt unnatural and cliche. It was a quick read and kept you wondering what was going to happen next. And while the ending wasn't very surprising, it was satisfying. less
