review 1: It kills me when the first book of a series meanders about, not giving you enough to sink your teeth into. I expected steak. I got baby food. There's nothing about Sophie's personality that grabs at me. She is a bit of a whiner. She has a semi-confusing love life. Just who is the love interest here? Then let's talk about Sophie's "power" - the one she hasn't come into and doesn't know what it will be exactly. Yes. Read to the end and you still have no answers about that. For me, this was a really detailed prologue - an intro to characters and a taste of possible storylines to come. I'm hoping the next book gets more into the meat of things. This was highly underwhelming.
review 2: I was sent this book for free from Kobo, and didn't read it right away. The descr... moreiption doesn't do it justice. I decided to start it one night, and the next thing I knew, I'd lost the entire next day to reading. I finished this book about 24 hours after starting it and I loved it! (With breaks in between, of course). The characters are relatable and wonderfully flawed, and the romance isn't an absolute, set-in-stone thing like a lot of books. I found the interaction between the protagonist and her love-connection very entertaining throughout. Overall it was a very light, easy read that had me entertained from start to finish. Definitely a series I'll be reading again! I recommend it to anyone who likes a good romance, a good laugh, and a little bit of mystery in their books. less
