review 1: An excellent book for anyone struggling with pornography and a must-read for anyone who does pastoral counselling or who is assisting someone struggling with porn. This the best book I've found that approaches pornography addiction firmly from the standpoint of grace and the principles laid out here translate very easily into situations involving other habitual sins. Lambert first makes it clear that sin will only be overcome when our sorrow is a sorrow over offending God rather than simply sorrow over being caught or facing temporal consequences. This point is often overlooked. Of course, the problem with this is that other remedial steps may need to be taken if a person is lacking "godly sorrow". The one shortcoming lies in Lambert's overlooking the objective means ... moreof grace available through the Sacraments. He spends a good bit of time working through Titus 3 to discuss regeneration and John 6 to discuss Jesus as the bread of life, but leaves misses the sacramental nature of both passages. I'm not surprised by, this seeing as Lambert is writing from the perspective of a Baptist, but the objective grace found in tangible covenant signs and seals--water, bread, and wine--provide the assurance of inward grace so needed as we struggle with sin.
review 2: I have read many books over the years on purity, porn, etc, but this may be the best one I have ever read. The author doesn't spend much time telling how bad porn is, but gets down to the heart of the matter and addresses some aspects of porn addiction that I had never considered, but they made sense. As a former porn addict, and a guy who counsels guys with porn addictions, he knows what he is talking about. Instead of just giving a bunch of do's and don'ts, and ways to combat it outwardly, he gives some great advice and help for getting at the root of the problem. Great book. less
