One of the regular things in Vinnie’s life is playing five-a-side with some of his friends. Five-a-side football is a variation of association football in which each team fields five players (four outfield players and a goalkeeper). Other differences from football include a smaller pitch, smaller goals, and a reduced game duration. Matches are played indoors, or outdoors on AstroTurf or artificial grass pitches that may be enclosed within a barrier or “cage” to prevent the ball from leaving the playing area and keep the game flowing.
When Ellen first asks Vinnie to take her somewhere to walk, they go to the pier in Dun Laoghaire. Dún Laoghaire is a suburban seaside town in County Dublin, Ireland, about 12 km south of Dublin city centre. The 820-berth marina is the largest in the country.
On another occasion Ellen and Vinnie visit the National Gallery in Dublin. The National Gallery of Ireland houses the national collection of Irish and European art. It is located in the centre of Dublin .
Ellen and Vinnie go to see a football match at Dalymount Park. Dalymount Park is a football stadium in Phibsborough on the Northside of Dublin. It is the home of Bohemian F.C., who have played there since the early 20th century. The Bohemians is the team Vinnie supports.
When Paula takes the children and Vinnie panics, she goes to Dollymount Strand. Dollymount is a coastal suburban area on the north coast of Dublin Bay, within Clontarf, on the northside of Dublin, Ireland, just East of Saint Anne’s Park.
