review 1: So far, this series has taken my heart and squeezed it tight…spilling all the feelings that are possible to feel on the floor at my feet. It’s broken my heart more than once. It’s made me ecstatically happy and extremely angry. And, yet, I still want more. This novella, told in Jonah’s POV, is pure angst, totally heartbreaking and deliciously good! For the sake of transparency, I must tell you that I’m “Team Kellan”. Yes, I picked a side and have stuck to it strong and true. Those of you who have done the same, in this series or others, know that once you’ve made your choice, you don’t look back! As I read the first two books, A Matter of Fate and A Matter of Heart, I would gladly tell anyone who’d listen that I couldn’t care less about Jonah’... mores feelings and that he didn’t deserve Chloe anyway. I had my reasons and I wasn’t budging. But, darn if Heather Lyons didn’t go and make me feel something for Jonah with this novella. She made me listen to his inner monologue…she made me experience his heartbreak and his regrets…she showed me his intentions and informed me that there was more to this story than I was originally privy to. And, in the end, she might have (maybe, just maybe) taken a small part of my heart and written Jonah’s name on it. This novella lets the reader experience the first book in the series through a fresh perspective. But let me put your mind at ease…it doesn’t feel like you are rereading the book at all. It offers new encounters and interactions, explores family relationships more thoroughly, provides insight into what’s going on behind the scenes and shows us Jonah’s true feelings, fears and desires. This is something we didn’t have before and it made the story that much richer for me. It answered some of my more basic questions around Jonah’s decisions and actions. It helped me understand where he was coming from and, in the end, it allowed me to let him into my heart. The third book in the series, A Matter of Truth, will be released shortly and I can’t wait to see what happens next in this saga. I’m still “Team Kellan” through and through but now I know that I also care about what happens to Jonah. That probably means more stress for me while I read it but I’m definitely looking forward to it…someone pass me some tissues, please.
review 2: Anyone invested in this series can tell you almost instantly if they are "Team Jonah" or "Team Kellan". Well, except me. I can't choose. Like Chloe, my love for both of these two runs deep. Beyond Fate gives us a look into Jonah's point of view. We are taken back to A Matter of Fate and all of the moments that brought Chloe and Jonah together ... and brought Chloe and Kellan together. I was drawn to Jonah's angst, love, commitment, loyalty and most of all, his soul. Beautifully written with wit and spunk we see Jonah is a person with so many layers and so much integrity you can't help but fall in love, or more in love with him. less
