review 1: Heather Lyons writing will take you into another world! Her writing makes you believe that you are really living, breathing between the pages with the characters that she creates. This Alice In Wonderland spin is beautifully written it will make you keep the pages turning but also piecing all the pieces together just like a collector ;) If you have read a book from Heather before you are aware that her writing is amazing and this book you find nothing less than that. If you are a new reader looking at Mrs.Lyons work stop right here and add it to your tbr or better yet click this copy at ebook retailer or in paperback the cover is to die for. I fell in love with each character they each bring a unique twist to the story that makes you want to know more. I can not wait to se... moree what else Alice's future holds. If you want a captivating book from start to finish just ask yourself"Are you ready for your next adventure, Ms.Reeve? Are you ready to once more slip through a looking glass?"
review 2: I LOVED this book and really hope there will be a sequel (or better yet a whole series)! I would strongly recommend this for fans of Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series and TV shows like Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. Alice is a wonderful and sympathetic narrator. As the story opens she is piecing her life back together in the Pleasance mental asylum after leaving Wonderland for what she believes will be the last time. Alice (and the reader) are introduced to the Collectors' Society and its own cast of agents/characters from a variety of classic stories, including the swoon-worthy, grown-up Huck Finn. Their job is to protect the internal timelines of fictional worlds from literary terrorists who are systematically destroying those worlds and their inhabitants. Alice is recruited by the Society to help protect Wonderland from being deleted and, in the process of training and becoming accustomed to the "real world" in modern day New York--which can sometimes seem more nonsensical than Wonderland--starts to form a new family among her fellow agents. I won't spoil anything further from the plot because it needs to be experienced first hand to fully enjoy it. Heather Lyons does an excellent job building this world and the incorporating the fictional worlds and "timelines" from many other different stories. Her writing style is very descriptive and sucks you in from the first page. I loved the balance of humor, fantasy, suspense and romance and can't wait to read more from her. A huge thank you to GoodReads First Reads and Heather Lyons for providing a signed copy of the book! less
