review 1: If you're looking for a novel, with a story line, plot twists, and a resolution, this is not for you. This is a short story; a character sketch. It is set in Arizona, but doesn't read as Arizona at all. The dialect is clearly deep south. No explanation is provided for that. Also, the author seems obsessed with lips. She repeatedly tells us how, exactly, the characters are holding their lips. Pulled in, drawn up like a button, popped out, raised, etc. It's terribly distracting once you notice it.Fun read, and nothing too taxing.
review 2: This is a quick read and at times it is humorous but at other times it is a bit frustrating. Marfa is a young widow living in Flagstaff, AZ with her mother-in-law, Lulu in a miserable old trailer. They are captive in a traile
... morer park run by a domineering crazy lady. Both women are stuck psychologically in a miserable, unbreakable cycle of complaint, dependency and depression. Marfa needs to break this cycle and once she finally comes to this realization, her relationship with Lulu takes an upward turn! less

Um. It was ok. Read like a day in the life of these people. Kinda like watching a reality show.
