review 1: I loved this book. It was a romantic adventure set in a fantasy world that came alive. The excitement and romance kept me reading and enjoying it all the way through. Helen took me into a fantasy land with unusual magic, culture, wording and characters - a perfect escape which reminded me of C.S. Lewis' books which were my absolute favourite as a kid. This novel was excellently executed with great detail and emotional impact. The romance was tender and sweet; the hero a perfect gentleman clothed in a spy's dashing and adventuresome body. She even had the ability to take me into the villain's mind. He was evil yes, but at times I felt sorry for him. A good, meaty read that makes me want more of her fantasy novels.
review 2: This story was absolutely beautiful. T
... morehe characters is lively with clear distinct personalities. The heroine wasn't cowardly. The hero was strong but not strong enough to defend the heroine by himself. The villain was angry and mean, emotions hardened by his childhood. The side characters had as much life as the main character. And ohhh, the plot and climax was at a steady pace but it still made my heart race. I look forward to reading other books from this author. less
