review 1: I am trying authors previously unknown to me: There are several fairly new authors from Scandinavian countries taking the world by storm, so I thought I would try Mankell. I will read one more of his books featuring Wallander but I found the dialogue very strained and the ending unbelievable. Then I discovered that this was a very early novella but just published this year. Perhaps the author improves in later books.
review 2: 3 stars does not mean it is not a good book, 3 starts means "I liked it", I just didn't "really like it". I felt it was a little thin plot wise, but I think this is actually by design as it might of been a special one of by Mankell to fill a demand for a short Wallander series novel as some sort of giveaway. It did still have all the ... moreclassic elements of the series so avid readers will still OK with it. less
