review 1: This is a short story and once again the ability of this man to make places and people come alive is ridiculously brilliant! There’s not a lot to this mystery and honestly I think the story was secondary to the exploration of Wallander’s (and in some ways by extension Mankell’s) aging and the inevitable ending of the Wallander series. The afterword reflects the absolute brilliance of the author and his drive to explore humanity, a quality which is apparent in all of his books.
