review 1: This is a short story and once again the ability of this man to make places and people come alive is ridiculously brilliant! There’s not a lot to this mystery and honestly I think the story was secondary to the exploration of Wallander’s (and in some ways by extension Mankell’s) aging and the inevitable ending of the Wallander series. The afterword reflects the absolute brilliance of the author and his drive to explore humanity, a quality which is apparent in all of his books.
review 2: Book group last night so I have some time for me reading... Got this at the library, picked it up this morning and managed to read about half during the day. I really really really love Kurt Wallander. I understand why Mankell does not wish to write more books in the se... moreries, but I wish it were not true. But it is. So I'll have to deal with that. Mankell created one of my favorite characters of all time. Amazing writer. Years of reading love..... less
