review 1: "Getting to the next level always requires ending something, leaving it behind, and moving on. Growth itself demands that we move on. Without the ability to end things, people stay stuck, never becoming who they are meant to be, never accomplishing all that their talents and abilities should afford them." Chapter 1No matter where you find yourself in life this book should be a big help to you. In business, jobs, relationships, or school, we at some point probably continue on in these endeavors without any idea that necessary endings are likely required to end destructive patterns. A Christian would see ending their sin as the truest of "Necessary Endings" though its only brought up here in around about way.Do you have a business that is good in some areas but sufferings in... more others, you can't however bring yourself to end things, does a job you have drain you of yourself, wearing you out with little or no upside, does the man or women your dating or married to fall short of what you desire to be fulfilled for a lifetime together, are you taking classes that your parents want you to but you hate, are you involved in learning that is unrewarding and leaves you less than motivated to continue? The answers to all these seeming problems are addressed thoroughly.Being in business for 25 years, it would have been helpful to have read this in the beginning, however, what he is saying is not easy to do, it takes courage and maturity, the ability to see the greater good, to understand that sentimentality can be destructive. The part where you actually have to do something entails doing it in a way that strengthens all parties involved. What could the world be like if we put others before ourselves? Like Heaven!
review 2: Henry Cloud does a great job in the book of helping define 'endings' in both the work/corporate world and in the world of our personal lives. This is a great read and provides real guidance around where we can be stuck and not moving forward. I gave this a 4 out of 5 only because it is a book that people will most likely really connect with when they are in the process of an ending...or perhaps even ending(s)! less
