review 1: I almost feel like a traitor rating one of Dr. Cloud's books this low, because I absolutely love the other Boundaries books and he is an excellent speaker. I heard a presentation of the principles of this book at the Celebrate Recovery Summit and couldn't wait to grab the book and get more. However, this book's title is somewhat misleading. It should be called "Strategies for CEOs" or some such. All of the examples are related to big business and that appears to be the target audience. As a leader in a ministry (ie. the goal is not closing deals or making sales), I had a very difficult time translating the information in this book into practices I could actually use. Fortunately, I had my notes from his presentation which I will definitely be using.Bottom line: if you are ... morein big business and understand what an acquisition is (or can type it without spell check), this book is for you. If you are in any other kind of leadership position, you will probably be frustrated and struggle to get through it without your eyes glazing over and needing a nap.
review 2: This is a very good book for leaders. I greatly enjoy Henry Cloud's thoughtful evaluation of leaders and the emotional and intellectual components of effective leadership. I will reflect on this book for a while, and I believe that it will become a foundational component of my leadership. I would strongly recommend all leaders spend some time with this book. This book is self leadership in a tight package. less
