review 1: Beautifully written with finely drawn characters, it's a very moving love story of two isolated people who seem determined to thwart their efforts to be together. I found myself believing completely in the two characters and wanting them to come together; it didn't seem unlikely at all, to me. I also enjoyed it because it didn't reveal everything about the two central characters' lives or their relationship; you were left with much to think about. I felt totally immersed in the story - and in Japan which is described so vividly but with a light touch. I read it really quickly because it drew me in; looking forward to reading more of the author's work.
review 2: Have to admit that I was at first drawn to the book because of its later title "Strange Weather in To
... morekyo." And the picture on the cover of the book misled me to think of the narrator as a teen or a twentysomething. When I finally learned about the characters and their strange encounters, I was a bit disoriented. Gradually, however, I could not help but wanted to follow their bizarre relationship through to the end. less
