review 1: I won this book on a blog takeover and I'm so glad that I won it! It is the first of HJ Bellus' work that I have read and it won't be the last. I devoured this book. I was entranced from the gripping prologue that just made your heart break from Milly.Fast forward thirty years and Milly has had enough! She is ready to divorce her sleaze of a husband and move on with her life. She is ready to live for herself for the first time. She is finally doing things for no other reason than she wants to. She is settled in a new town and starting a new life. She has made friends with her eccentric hair dresser Lacey. The relationship between those two had me laughing so hard no sound came out. As she is getting ready to open her business, The Shop, when she encounters Cree for the fir... morest time.Cree is the hometown farmer with a heart of gold. He also has an angel of a daughter, Annie. The bond between them is so sweet and special and it truly melted my heart. The magic sprinkles dance scene was written so well that I could picture it happening. He falls hard and fast for Milly and her no-nonsense attitude. The sparks really fly between the couple! The chemistry is off the charts. After a threat from Cree's past threatens Annie, he has a freak out during which he takes his anxiety out on Milly. All she wanted to do was help and because she had been treated poorly in the past decides that she isn't going to stand for it. For her own sanity she walks away. After some time, they both come to their senses and work though their issues and get back together. However, when a threat from Milly's past shows up, it is Lacey to the rescue and Cree to pick up the pieces. There are some deeply touching moments between Annie and Milly. Both girls never had a mom in their life and Milly vows to be that person for Annie. The scene at the winter concert really solidified their relationship. Annie and Milly form a special relationship that only cements her place in their lives more. There is another threat on the happy family and luckily Milly is there to save the day but not without a heart stopping moment that made me gasping "no".Overall, it was a great start to the series. We are introduced to a wide cast of characters who become each others family. I look forward to more from this series and author.
review 2: Milly just wanted someone to want her. Failed and forgotten by her abusive parents, Milly vowed to never let anyone hurt her again. As a grown woman, Milly stayed in a disastrous marriage for years because of the love shown to her by her mother-in-law. When her mother-in-law dies Milly decides to leave it all behind. She gets a divorce, sales everything, buys a truck, starts a bucket list and hightails it out of town. Settling in a new place, Milly opens a coffee shop and forms a friendship with Lacey, the local beautician. Everything seemed perfect but it was going to get better when Cree walked into her coffee shop. Cree was a single dad to his daughter Annie and when he saw Milly he knew he had to have her. Milly agreed. These two begin a sweet and funny romance. Cree, Milly, Annie, Lacey and Cree’s sister Willow form a close knit family and everything works well until Kyla, Annie’s mother comes back into the picture. The stress of dealing with Kyla causes Cree to push Milly away. Abandoned again by someone she loves, Milly is devastated. Will Milly ever get the family she craves to be part of? Can Cree and Milly find their way back to each other and heal from the past? This book was amazing. The story will make you cry one minute and laugh out loud the next. This was an excellent way to start this series. The characters are just so loveable from the little girl Annie to the friendship between Milly, Lacey and Willow. Each person adds so much to the story and I recommend this to anyone looking for a funny romance about second chances. My review was provided for Sexy Ways of Reading. less
