Sequels to the Count of Monte Cristo
review 1: That Girl Started Her Own Country by Holy Ghost Writer follows Zaydee as she is arrested, incarcerated, and after refusing to reveal her true identity, is given the title of "Princess Jane Doe". It doesn't take long for rumors to spread about the mysterious princess, but all Zaydee is interested in is getting out. While she is making allies and forming schemes, her journalist friend and former lover, Steven Larson, finds an old box which unlocks some of the mysteries not only of Zaydee's ancestry, but of the Skull and Bones, a secret society that is conducting revolutionary research. Holy Ghost Writer weaves all of these stories together in this installment of Sequels of the Count of Monte Cristo. This novel started off well. Having already read The Anonymous Girl, it was n... moreice to get some more background on Zaydee and the other major characters in the book and understand exactly what got her thrown into jail in the first place. Once again, I was kept interested by Zaydee's extraordinary intelligence and the hyperbole between her and the bumbling FBI agents. The dialogue and banter between characters was also entertaining. That being said, I believe that there were a few scenes in this book that were largely unnecessary. It felt as if the author had simply placed them there to fill space when his (or her) time could have been better spent developing the plot further or clarifying some of the parts that were a little confusing. All in all, That Girl Started Her Own Country was a quick and entertaining read and met the expectations that I've developed for Holy Ghost Writer's work.
review 2: I was surprised to find this story set upon the modern days as the earlier books of the author which I read were the tales of old times. Nevertheless, Holy Ghost Writer proved to be good in narrating modern day stories as well. I believe that he has put lot of efforts and done much research on the technology side as it was well mixed with the story line giving a freshness to the series. This time even more popular fictions have taken part in the book. It was a quick and intriguing read which I enjoyed a lot. Look forward to read the next volume. However, I was little disappointed in skipping straight to the 6th book, and found it little overwhelming to get settled in the modern world after being pampered in the good old times with the last 3 books. less
