review 1: This sexy tale of three single husbands is tantalizing, unpredictable, and repulsive all in one. The stand out couple is without a doubt Herschel and Nikki Henderson. Both are the headlining stars of this novel and the majority of the other characters are just their pawns. Nikki is a celebrity erotic sex recipe chef banking über-millions flying around the country taping television segments and showcasing her culinary skills for wealthy clients. Herschel is basically a kept man, living and taking care of his secret side family off of Nikki's bank account interest. Never once does this novel depict him going to work although he apparently has a white collar job and brings homes bread crumbs compared to his wife. That alone makes Herschel feel inferior and like he doesn't we... morear the pants in the marriage. He isn't far from the truth but then again he married Nikki for the wrong reasons to begin with, and is cheating on her with both sexes so maybe he deserves the way he feels.Sexy dread locked gapped tooth Lexington Lewis has been married for 10 years to Donna. Sacrificing everything, she sold her thriving restaurant in New Orleans to relocate to Miami and marry him. She then popped out two children to add to the three illegitimate ones he already has just to be indemnified with neglect and constant almost blatant infidelity. Donna stopped having sex with her husband 3 years ago and seems to have let herself go, stays in the house, and always wears frumpy clothes with horrible bunny house slippers while begging Lexington to stay home with her. He doesn't, instead he opts to go to his favorite swingers club until the wee hours of the morning satisfying his unquenchable sexual thirst. He is also sexing his first and unattainable love every chance he gets. . . Nikki. From the outside looking in Brian and Michelle have the supreme marriage. They seem sincerely in love and deeply connected. The only poised threat seems to be Michelle's mother. She is willing to do anything in her power to prove he isn't good enough for her daughter but is ignorant of their unequivocal vow of "to death do us part". I must say that I am most disgusted by Brain Flaw than any other character in this novel. Not only because of the obvious but because his outlook that the lighter the skin the better the person. Brain comes from a legacy of light skinned successful men that embed in their families head that dark skin is not necessarily bad, but not good enough, so Brain won't touch a woman with a tan. Just a tad offensive, especially since he doesn't seem to learn a thing this entire novel. The plot is weak yet the erotica is the exact opposite, a little balance and this book would have been a lot better. I enjoyed the sex scenes but would have definitely loved for the characters to have been more developed. We met them all and rapidly have to figure out who was who, who was married to whom, and who was sexing who behind who's back. We learned a bit about certain characters and then almost nothing about others. Maybe there are too many characters and too many side and combined story lines? Or maybe the book was just too short to have wrapped it all up effectively. (Series?) Anyway, this novel closed quickly with many unanswered questions and I would have highly appreciated it if we could have seen all of these characters evolve, mature, and find some direction while even attempting to redeem themselves. Everyone except Brian and Michelle honestly appeared to be confused, and often changed their minds on heavy decisions. The foundation of this publication seems to be, the most popular marriage vows do not necessarily include being monogamous. "Forsake all others", can be subjective. Obviously, that doesn't make it okay to cheat but that sure did serve as a valid excuse in some of these character's minds. A part two is unquestionably in order. We need to find out what happens to insatiable Nikki. The reasons Donna stuck by her single husband for 10 years and why she seemed so brainless for almost the entire novel. And I'm quite sure there is a whole new book worth of stuff on Michelle and I can't wait to find out. The biggest question of all is were these woman also single wives?
review 2: Perfect title but…“Single Husbands” is the perfect title by author Honey B for this fast read that features three married men and their wives. This story throws the doors wide open on three marriages which from the outside looking in seems to be perfect, but we readers get a ring side seat to view what’s REALLY going on behind close doors! “Marriage vows…what’s that?” Could have been another title considered here. The couples all know each other and the husbands are best of friends. These marriages are put through the wringer as the husbands shamelessly disrespect their vows but feel they are doing nothing wrong. All are self-centered and have insatiable appetites for sex. I have three words to sum up each husband.Herschel: Confused, Weak, User.Lexington: Greedy, Pompous, Egoistical.Brian: Smug, Pathetic, Bias.None of the characters had any backbone. I found it hard to believe that Nikki (who seemed to have all her ducks in a row) took the time to find out all the details on her cheating husband, but had no idea her lover Lexington had a whole tribe going on!I didn’t understand any of the wives, and we weren’t really given the chance to get to know Nikki, Michelle, and shallow Donna! I had a little hope for Michelle only to be let down in the end. If you like scandalous drama with plenty of raw sex this is the read for you. For me it started off hopeful but failed to deliver anything positive in the outcome.Locksie June 26, 2011ARC Book Club Inc.Star Rating 3.0*** less
