review 1: This is a refreshing and liberating book detailing how to live out "being" the church rather than "attending" church in a building. For those that have attended traditional church for most of their lives, it will leave you scratching your head (or shaking your head) wondering where this philosophy of a more simple and less structured form of church comes from. The authors do a thorough job of explaining that the current model of church is not even close to the model the New Testament describes. Once embraced, this way of living the Christian life is liberating and far more effective in discipline those searching for faith in a real, living God. I recommend also reading the primer that takes you on an 8 week journey to getting started living the Tangible Kingdom ... morelife.
review 2: This is another book that has been out for several years describing a new kind of church. Well, not really church, but a movement intended to incarnate the gospel of the kingdom. I am only now coming to the conversation and found this description really "fits" with our culture, with the cry of the de-churched and with guys like me that have pretty much given up on the attractional model of doing church. I appreciated the description of their journey as a church, especially the stories that put some "flesh" on the why's and why-not's of the way they are expressing the kingdom together. I also appreciated the lack of "teachyness" since we get too much of that anyway.Dust this one off and get into this if you're tired of consumer church and looking for a way to live out the real gospel with others who care more about each other than getting the latest goods from religious vending machines. It'll make you want more. less
