review 1: I read this aloud to my boys. Jared stayed with it to the end. Luke ended up not making it through the whole story. Sometimes running around the house with your little brother and scaring and chasing your big sister can be more exciting. In this adventure young Tom has to go rescue his 6 brothers and 5 sister-in-laws to be (One brother doesn't YET have a sweetie, but will soon, don't worry) from the evil Ormstone. Along the way he his looking for his father who has been captured by the evil man. Adventure is around every corner. The fairy tale references in this book in Tom Thumb, Jack and Jill, and Rumpelstiltskin. The book ends unresolved, and it looks like the 3rd book is not published yet. This one wasn't as good as the first one, but still a very worthy read for a... more boy if you enjoy fairy tales and adventures. This story is more complex than the first one (not that it's really that complex, but looking at it from a ten year old point of view). What I liked and noticed in this one was the large vocabulary words. This would be a good book to work on vocab words if that's something your child likes or needs. Most words can be figured out from context. There were some words that were unknown to me.
review 2: When the villian Ormestone kidnaps Tom's six older brothers and their princess brides,Tom knows he must make the journey to the dark land. He's an adventuring Trueheart, after all,and it won't be the first time he's faced Ormestone. But does he stand a chance after Ormestone shrinks him to the size of a thumb? His friend Jollity the crow will be by his side, and the strong-willed princesses have a plan of their own.But in the end, this adventure rests on Tom's tiny shoulders. less
