review 1: Another great book by Ian Rankin. Our man Rebus is still a pain in the arse for the higher-ups, which is why we love him, even if he's getting on a bit in years. Through the series, Rankin has given us a peephole into John Rebus, his evolution as a man and an officer of the law, and Saints of the Shadow Bible shows us a Rebus in physical decline but moral ascendancy. As always, Rankin's use of language and humor moves things right along, bringing us all too soon to the end.
review 2: Wow! I picked this book up purely by chance (hurray for second hand bookshops!) mainly because it was only a dollar & I had a long wait & no book. Rebus is fantastic! The story is twisty & well paced without being trite or predictable, and even the characters that could so easily... more become stereotypes are so well written that they become totally believable. I absolutely understand why Rebus is so popular & I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for his other books. less
