(Book Review) Just One… by Gayle Forman (Spoiler Free)

Hey Readers, I have no excuse for disappearing except for 2 words, BOOK SLUMP (one of my worse and I’ve had many). I always get into one during the worse times, because it’s when all my favorite authors release books, or I get new book recommendations. But I’m finally back and have another book review and it’s a good one, because not only is this book big, but it’s a bind-up of 2 books and what I think is a novella.

Before I get into this whole review can I just say that I love getting out of reading slumps with a good read.

Synopsis:

Just One Day (#1)

Allyson Healey’s life is exactly like her suitcase—packed, planned, ordered. Then on the last day of her three-week post-graduation European tour, she meets Willem. A free-spirited, roving actor, Willem is everything she’s not, and when he invites her to abandon her plans and come to Paris with him, Allyson says yes. This uncharacteristic decision leads to a day of risk and romance, liberation and intimacy: 24 hours that will transform Allyson’s life.

Just One Year (#2)

When he opens his eyes, Willem doesn’t know where in the world he is—Prague or Dubrovnik or back in Amsterdam. All he knows is that he is once again alone and that he needs to find a girl named Lulu. They shared one magical day in Paris, and something about that day—that girl—makes Willem wonder if they aren’t fated to be together. He travels all over the world, from Mexico to India, hoping to reconnect with her. But as months go by and Lulu remains elusive, Willem starts to question if the hand of fate is as strong as he’d thought. . . .

Just One Night (#2.5 – Novella)

After spending one life-changing day in Paris with laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter, sheltered American good girl Allyson “Lulu” Healey discovered her new lover had disappeared without a trace. Just One Day followed Allyson’s quest to reunite with Willem; Just One Year chronicled the pair’s year apart from Willem’s perspective. Now, back together, at last, this delectable e-novella reveals the couple’s final chapter.

Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (I decided just to rate the story as a whole, rather than individual books.) I basically just picked up this book on a limb, I wanted to read something and even though my TBR pile already filled up a shelf on my bookshelf, I decided ‘why not get it?’ so I was at Target and I bought it, Reminder to all Readers: Stay away from the book area at Target, so dangerous.  I highly recommend this duology if you have the travel bug, but you are too poor to actually pack up your bags and head out to Europe. This duology  (I think because the last book is just a novella) will give you a big case of wanderlust.

Besides being a cure for pretty much everything, this book was a journey from start to finish. Especially for the main character, Allyson, she did a complete 180 in the course of the first book. And I loved going on that journey with her. Normally I hate when books change POV but for Allyson and Willem, it just worked. Not only because it was in different books but we got to see the story from both of their eyes.

Of course, there were parts that seemed a little dull for me, and had me skip over them (I went back to them). But the story as a whole was just the thing you need if you’re in the mood for cute contemporary stories and have a little bit of wanderlust.
