Hazel Micallef Mystery
review 1: Henry Weist, the owner of a local hardware store is found dead in the parking lot of a pub on an Native reserve. When Hazel McCallef hears of his death, the autopsy has already been done even though Henry was not a member of the reserve and had lived in a nearby town. Hazel's suspicions immediately are peaked. Henry was a well known and well liked man in the community. The autopsy report shows he was stung by a bee but Hazel requests a second autopsy especially as it appears he was stung by a bee around midnight. The results of the second autopsy performed off the reserve, indicate he was electrocuted probably by a taser gun. The Inspector on the reserve questions why Hazel is suspicious and tries to deflect her questions. Hazel continues to probe and her findings surprise... more everyone. A good mystery and I quite enjoy this character's adventures.
review 2: This is a police murder/ mystery novel. I am not sure I like the main character. It is the third book in a series so perhaps i should start at the beginning to get to know her. Nevertheless, the plot is unusual, and it kept me on my toes. The theme of Eastern European women trapped into prostitution by well organized gangs is not new but the results and conclusion is unusual. Suffice it to say that one of these girls becomes both a villain and a heroine in this novel. The ending is s shocker. I WILL try the others in the series. less

A better than average crime novel. Plus Canadians. That's about it.
