review 1: Fast paced and interesting mystery that keeps you turning the pages. Hazel is a DI with the Canadian police and she has a complicated puzzle to solve. The clues are composed of an item in a pond, a mysterious web cam picture that keeps changing, a serialized story in the local newspaper and a missing person. This case is related to a past, supposedly resolved, death but all is not as it seems. The characters, especially Hazel, are very appealing with unexpected depths.
review 2: I had found Wolfe's previous book in this series, The Calling, as an excellent read with great depth of characters. I was anticipating the same with this second book. However, while it was well written and a good read, it lacked the character intensity of The Calling. I found the
... moreartist's use of metaphor particularly interesting and clever -- using a water theme through many of the metaphor and vocabulary. less
