review 1: (P-Lib) Pretty good new series. I like the New Orleans setting, but it'd be nice if Rita sometimes went back to Albuquerque, which could be fun, too. It bothered me that they didn't say how the conflict with the wedding cake disaster was resolved. I doubt they'll mention that in subsequent books, but I was curious to see how Rita would fix it. So, will Rita date the cute cop or the cute bartender?
review 2: This was a cute little quick read cozy mystery. I enjoyed the story. I enjoyed the characters of Rita, Miss Frankie, Detective Sullivan and even Ox whose proved to be as Stubborn as his name suggested. I love the rich, decadent setting of New Orleans and Miss brady's strong suit is that of Adjectives and really making you see, smell, Hear and even taste the ... morescene she was setting. However The whole thing seemed rather undeveloped to me. Instead of solving the mystery with clues and deductive reasoning as I would have liked, Rita just clumisly stumbled into the truth with no kind of prolouge. I would have loved to see the Zydeco staff apologize to Ox and see him get what he deserved as well as see Quinn given what she deserved as well. It made no mention as to what happened to her after the killer was caught. Maybe in the next book perhaps? less
