review 1: While I like the main character, the premise, and the world the author has built, this second in series had quite a lot more sexual tension, too many love (or lust) interests, and romancey crap to it than the (most excellent) first one in the series. Daisy Johanssen is Hel's Liason, a title granted her by the Norse goddess Hel. Little Niflheim (the Norse underworld) is a real place that exists under Pemkowet, Michigan--and you can only get there if a frost giant in a dune buggy comes and picks you up. LOL The characters are GREAT! The writing is GREAT! The story itself is GREAT! But I fear it is going to degrade into just another sweaty romance disguised as a parnormal series. I know a lot of folks like this...but for me, as Daisy herself would say...."... moreGAH!"
review 2: I liked it but I did not love it. The plot is very different than I am used to, what seemed to do the overarching plot goes on in the background for most of the story while daily life and relationships take the forefront. It is also definitely written for the female gaze.It is starting to look like this world is more of the standard urban fantasy world type where supernaturals exist and are known but society does not react in any real way. It hints at more complexity in the setting but very few details are shown. Either Daisy was written to be a relatable everywoman without regard to realism, or Hel has reasons of her own for making Daisy her agent and the safety of Pemkowet is a low priority for her. Daisy has no real prior experience and is given very little oversight or direction by Hel. Time will tell. less

I am very "meh" about Daisy, which makes it hard to get excited about the various things around her.

Enjoyed the character and fictional world development. Kinda obvious mystery though.
