Moirin's Trilogy
review 1: This is another amazing edition in the world of Kushiel. Everything she writes is beautifully descriptive, dark and sexy. I love how she explores the idea of sex being a blessing and not shameful, contrasts that with views of other cultures that do not see it like that. I love how she takes real cultures and incorporates them into fantasy. In each new book we get to see more of this world that she has created.I love that Moirin gets to rescue Bao this time, and that she can shoot a bow rather than just having intellectual skills like Phedre. Phedre was amazing but it is nice to see a girl who can fight too. I love that she challenges the gender roles. She always writes amazingly strong and useful female characters. As you can probably tell, I love this author and this world... more more and more with every book. I highly recommend the entire series.
review 2: This book was fun and enjoyable to read, as all of the Kushiel books are. There were parts of the book that I found a little ridiculous (I agree with other reviewers' comments about the preachiness and Moirin constantly consulting her diadh-anam), but the book was well-written and I really enjoyed reading it overall. One thing I find frustrating, however, is that the main characters never seem to experience jealousy. It's such an intense and human emotion, and their near total inability to experience it makes them less believable as characters. Anyway, those quibbles aside, I still enjoyed this book. less

4.something*??? This book is very difficult to rate. Maybe just 4*? The first portion I was ready to give only 3 stars, but then came the last portion. It was much improved. There were some scenes that were so... sexy & sensual, romantic, & so fully enveloping. Just beautiful. Moirin & Bao are growing on me, but it still seems sacrilege to rate these books in the same arena as Phédre & Joscelin or even Imriel's books. They ARE finding their own magical love story, but it's sadly just not nearly as epic.
