review 1: So good! I used this for summer school as I have several Latino students in my class. They connected with the Latino main character, Freddie Ramos. They thought the story was pretty cool - who doesn't love talking about super powers? If I'd had more time, I could've drawn in more details from the story: a parent who died being a soldier, worrying about money as a family, moving, etc. The ending was a great lead in to the next book in the series.
review 2: Freddy Ramos comes home from school to find a package with mysterious shoes inside. With a "Zoom! Zoom! Zapato!" he is off racing to save the day. I thought this was a very cute book. Probably best for children between 6 to 8 who like superhero action stories. The story had very nice comic book style illus
... moretrations which were very adorable. The only aspect of the story which did not sit well for me was the discussion of Freddy's dads death. Apparently, he was a solider who died. Although Freddy's father seems to be mentioned because Freddy wants to emulate him, I would have preferred that his dad be away or that part be left out instead of stating "everyone at his funeral called him a hero." less
