review 1: I am beyond pissed! This gave me time to really get into the story before i was so rudely cut off by the last page! Who ends a book on a cliff hanger strong enough to hang myself with? OMG I love Lily White and Jaden is becoming a close favorite but come on! The next book isn't even out yet! What will i do until then to keep from pulling my hair out? Ok so whatever … the story goes on. In the adventure, i get a chance to connect more with Pet (Ronnie) and her feelings toward Jude. We also get introduced to a new character even though for a while i was unsure of her purpose in the story. Hell I'm still not quite sure i know. Detective Donovan is being his natural asshole self. Even though Jude knows that he is just giving Donovan what he wants, he still plays into it. Ju... morede believes he has found a way to keep Ronnie safe from him but at what costs? And one question … who is the mystery woman in the end and what connection does Jude find between her and Ronnie?
review 2: Mind-blown, to say the least. Again. Lily White and Jaden Wilkes did it again with SERIAL VOL. TWO… dark, gritty, twisted, shocking … and a pretty nasty cliffhanger! Is Volume Three out yet?!There were so many questions left unanswered after the first installment – what would happen to Ronnie’s co-worker Noreen (…although I had a reasonable suspicion about her) – and how does the mysterious and somewhat dark Agent Blake fit into the picture? These were the main questions swirling through my mind beside the obvious one if or how long Ronnie will make it.Some of these puzzles were solved in Volume Two, but new ones did emerge, too. What about the déjà vu like feeling Jude seems to get regularly? And what is Patty’s role – who gets her own POV in the book – in the story?Book two picks up shortly after book one left off and gives four POVs: Jude’s, Ronnie’s, Agent Blake’s – the ones we already had – plus Patty’s, a eighteen year old coke addict who is trying desperately to provide a better life for her daughter that is fathered by her pimp. While Patty, one never to be lucky, is struggling badly, Jude is monitoring both his captives – the waitress in his warehouse and Ronnie, his Pet, in his apartment – trying to figure out how not to kill Ronnie, to use her as his anchor to normalcy instead. But how to accomplish that if his desire for her only intensifies his undeniable need to act on his darkest addiction? Can he avoid making that one terrible mistake that would get him caught by Agent Blake?Ronnie… well, she is his Pet. She is naive, buying and accepting everything Jude tells her, she does not have that much of a fight in her. So far, it was pretty easy for Jude to completely control her.Agent Blake is slowly closing the gap between the FBI and the Cascades Killer, one threat that Jude should take seriously. He is connecting Ronnie’s disappearance as well as Billy’s – Ronnie’s ex’ – murder to the other murders that are already linked to the killer – there is just this nagging feeling in his gut that tells him theory is true…With Jude as well as Agent Blake, this extremely twisted and disturbing story has two enigmas – two points of view I enjoyed reading very much. Both of them have dark souls and are incredibly intelligent and relish in everything normal people find unsettling. I’m not yet sure if Blake isn’t even sicker than Jude, his character still is a complete mystery to me.This book is part of a series and is no standalone, so make sure you start with the first installment – also make sure you can cope with disturbing and deranged characters – and the shocking fact that you are going to fall for a serial killer. Terribly wrong and immoral – but it will be happening! If you are looking for butterflies and light-heartedness, keep on searching – because this series surely is not for the faint of heart.A huge praise to Lily White and Jaden Wilkes for this outstanding collaboration that will have you questioning your own sanity! less
