review 1: How disappointing.Tabloid was brilliant, Cold Six Thousand ended well but otherwise was a difficult book to read.Blood's a Rover was something I picked up a couple of years after it first came out and to be honest it wasn't worth waiting for. It's the literary version of Dallas's shower scene when Pam or it might have been Bobby revealed they'd dreamt the whole thing. Add in a bit of Hitchcock making his cameo and the obnoxious peripheral figure you really hope is bumped off makes it through to the end alive, as all the interesting characters are killed off.Ellroy had so many characters and interesting settings to use and he doesn't quite make the most of them. Some brilliant writing but it doesn't come together as a package.
review 2: As with the previous Und
... moreerworld novels, reading "Blood's a Rover" is having your insides squeezed out through a pinhole, dripped onto a broken glassed canvas, scorched in the desert, whipped in and by a hurricane, rehydrated with acid and squeezed back in. I walk around like a black beautied zombie and it takes about a year to recover. If you like your social hystery Red and black and blue, dive in. Maybe you'll even come up. less

Listened to after reading Stephen King's review in Entertainment Weekly. Brilliant audio-book.

Overly complex and dense. Not a patch on the other two of the trilogy
