McCabe & Savage Thriller
review 1: I'd really rather rate this 3.5 stars but since that isn't an option I'll round up. If you want a relatively creative and fast paced mystery/crime novel then this is a good book to consider reading. I enjoyed casually reading it and liked Hayman's style. The police process/forensics detail was just the right amount for me. One "bad" thing, if you can call it that, is that there was a personal family life sub plot going on in the background. I thought this should have been left out completely or expanded on more. I would get wrapped up in the chase and then we'd be back at home talking to a daughter...threw me off a little bit.
review 2: The title might scare the squeamish away from reading this well-done thriller. It sounds like a slasher horror tale, but it's
... morereally about illegal heart transplants. Not that the villain isn't a guy you can easily despise, but it's got some interesting background motives involved. I like this series better when the focus is on McCabe as the main character, rather than his partner, Maggie Savage. He has a more interesting background to make his life complicated. Favorite thing: the author does such a great job depicting the setting in my home state; it's an added little pleasure for me. Not so favorite thing: Loose ends that I would like to have seen tied up at the end, like other characters involved. A worthy series. less
