review 1: Five stars for this book! Sergeant Lindsay Boxer solves two separate murder mysteries involving two distinct and unrelated serial killers. One killer is especially frightening because Lindsay knows that this killer is a cop on her police force and it could be ANYONE! There is NOBODY that she can trust! Additionally, there are complications in her own personal life that make an exceptionally interesting plot. It's possible to read and enjoy this book without first reading the other 10 books in the Women's Murder Club mystery series, but I recommend reading the other books first because the story is a progressive one and relationships change and develop. Additionally, a few of the characters die along the way. Again, this book deserves ALL five s... moretars!
review 2: James Patterson and Maxine Paetro are back! I give this a 4.5-star rating, after several not-so-stellar episodes of the Women's Murder Club. They've been OK, but this one is back to being very good. These stories are interesting, with the murderer being a surprise (to me anyway) until the reveal at the very end. ( We watch some very bizarre situations unfold, particularly with the House of Heads and the rogue cop.) And perhaps it's because there was little courtroom action, which I fine bogs the story down somewhat. I was especially pleased that the murder club actually met and discussed the cases a bit, which they haven't really done for a while. That was the basis of the series originally, after all, and Patterson has gotten away from that scenario in the past few books. Lindsay, as usual, is her own worst enemy regarding her personal life and her relationship with Joe, which drives me crazy but definitely suits her Type-A personality style. And I'm always happy to see Cindy and Rich's relationship developing, slowly and along normal lines. When they step away from their high-intensity jobs, they are nice and normal and enjoyable to watch. Yuki's personal relationship is explored a little, but we don't see much of Claire except for her ME expertise. I liked this one a lot and look forward to the next. less
