review 1: I do enjoy reading James Patterson and this book was no exception. This book was difficult to read because of the precise descriptions of how Abbie was treated in a French prison. We've all seen movies about prison life; this was told in such detail that I felt like I was there. I was anxious when Abbie was assigned a cell; anxious when Lucy took her to the basement at all hours to teach her a lesson (and get her to confess); anxious when Abbie was in the yard having to watch her back from being attacked. Oh how easy prison employees could rule a murder a suicide. Similar to the Italian justice system (remember Amanda Knox?), after reading this I have no desire to go to France where an innocent person has no rights and can be framed, tried on shabby evidence, incongrui... moreties not checked out, and jailed for life. Sure this is a work of fiction, but how much truth was there re the justice system? I, for one, am not going to find out.
review 2: Don't judge a book by its cover. Common saying majority hear yet still ignore. I chose this book believing it was the perfect summer book because of its setting in Monte Carlo (let's face it, we all look for that escape from reality), but it was not at all what I was expecting. From the cover and brief explanation I thought it would be the typical wealthy women who let money get to their head sort of story but I couldn't have been more wrong. What starts out as a playful story soon starts to spiral with unexpected twists. I found that some parts had my heart racing, had me laughing, and even feel sorrow. This book is a hard one to set down and it will have you always wondering what will happen next. Although I wish the ending was just slightly different overall I highly recommend this book. less
