review 1: I have a weakness for Florida authors writing about our state, especially when the book is question is an autographed copy. Picked up this copy at the great Haslam's book store. I had not heard of the author before but I like legal thrillers so decided to give it a try. I was impressed with the descriptions of Florida, he has an excellent sense of place. But the story line was a bit trite and predictable and the protagonist was just a touch too saintly - especially for a lawyer! (No offense, I know some great ones, but I also have a better sense of how the world works and this isn't it.) Still, I did get through it and found it an easy and reasonably entertaining read.
review 2: This is the third book in the Jack Tobin series and I give it a 3.5. Tobin is reti
... morered from his lucrative layw practice and now helps death row inmates with their last appeals, but only if he thinks they are innocent. This is as much about character develop as the appeal and the main characters, Jack Tobin and Henry, his friend and investigator, are both nice people, and you find yourself cheering for them even when events are against them. The ending is a little unbelievable, but all-in-all, I like this series and look forward to the next book. less

This was the best lawyer book I've read since some of John Grisham's early novels.

I have now read all 4 of his books and like all of them for the suspense.
