review 1: The subject matter is familiar to me and I find it very interesting, but the story isn't. The beginning is very violent and tedious. The middle is confusing and the actual history of the Norman conquest is hurried over. I suspect the author feels like any readers already know all that and wants to get onto the good stuff, but it actually makes things a bit confusing and screws up the pacing. Perhaps this would be easier if read instead of listened to, because similar character names (3 Harolds) aren't always differentiated enough. Harold Redteeth did have the surname, and that helped his chapters, but he wasn't in the confusing battle chapters. The story started to get more compelling by the end, so I will continue with the trilogy.
review 2: Enjoyed it tremend
... moreously. It tells of a turning point in England's history, the Norman invasion by William the Bastard, and Hereward's revolt against brutal Norman rule. Well written, fast-paced and very informative, this was hard to put down.Regarding the other comments here, I wasn't aware of this book being published under a different title - and although I understand that a buyer would be disappointed to find they had already purchased this, it seems a pity to give the author bad reviews for this. I for one will certainly be reading the next two books in this trilogy.Reviewed in exchange for a preview Kindle copy. less
