review 1: This book feels to me like an attempt at making the new Da Vinci Code.Although I get that the whole point of the book is that the artifacts are mysterious and nobody knows where they came from, in my taste I would have like to know a bit more. The ending felt very anticlimactic to me, but by all means, this book is excellently written with twists and turns you'll never see coming. If you enjoyed Dan Brown and his books, this is definetely for you.
review 2: I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway.Similar in voice to Dan Brown, this novel is about a symbologist who is accused of murder and must go on the run across Europe from the police and a secret society to solve an ancient mystery in order to free himself. The similarities stop there, though.Don, is a drug-a
... moreddicted, Jewish professor. Once a doctor he was kicked out for abusing self-prescribed drugs and attacking a group of neo-Nazis. After a perverted diver finds an ancient artifact in a mine shaft, along with a well-preserved dead body, he bothers Don until he agrees to come and meet him. When Don arrives moments after the diver is killed by a woman interested in the same artifacts he's been called to see, he messes up and gets himself accused of the murder.Eva claims she is a lawyer and has come to represent him, but she doesn't seem to be all she claims. She has a large historical repertoire and describes events from the past as if she's lived them herself. She also seems to heal amazingly fast. When Don and Eva go on the run from the police and the society who wants the artifacts they think he is in the possession of or at least the knowledge of, they try to figure out the mystery of them themselves. The artifacts significance and use are a totally unique idea. The ending will suprise you, but not in the way you think. There is a lot of foreshadowing but the story leaves a lot to be discovered in the end. It unravels at just the right pace. While there are things I guessed would happen and where, they lead to a different place than I expected. less

Fairly silly attempt at a thriller in the tradition of "The Da Vinci Code."
