review 1: McGonigal opened up a whole new world of gaming for me. She helped to better understand how Gamers operate and what motivates them to succeed. Although I am not a gamer I could relate to this book because like the games and gamers she chronicles, I, too, have an urgent need to save the world. I enjoy being immersed in activities that make me feel like I could really make a difference. Perhaps that is why I am a teacher. I think that McGonigal exposes the reader to lots of amazing things that gamers are doing to help cure Cancer and solve real world problems like hunger. The only reason I didn't give the book more stars is because I wasn't sure that the book moved to much beyond her TED talk, which explains her theory in depth.
review 2: A great introduction int
... moreo the world of gamification, game-based behaviour modification, and general helpfulness of games. There was also a big focus on positive psychology and happiness in relation to gaming. Some parts of the introduction were a tad grandiose, claiming that games can solve world problems like war and famine, but the practical applications explored later in the book were more realistic.A great book for gamers, particularly because it can alleviate the guilt that one feels after spending hours and hours on the computer or console. less

Interesting subject matter but it reads like a PhD thesis.
